Gandhinagar: In a significant move to boost Gujarat’s role as a pharmaceutical manufacturing hub, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel conducted an on-site review of the under-construction Bulk Drug Park at Jambusar in Bharuch district. The mega-project, sprawling across 815 hectares (2,015 acres), is being developed under the Central Government’s Bulk Drug Park Policy.
A Major Step Towards Pharmaceutical Self-Reliance
The Bulk Drug Park, being developed by Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), is part of the national vision led by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi to enhance India’s self-sufficiency in bulk drug production. The park is designed with world-class infrastructure to support large-scale pharmaceutical manufacturing and reduce dependence on imports.

Common Infrastructure at ₹550 Cr in Focus
The Chief Minister reviewed key common infrastructure projects being developed at the site, with a dedicated investment of ₹550 crore. These include:
- Approach roads and internal roads
- Compound wall and perimeter security
- Pre-cast stormwater drainage systems
- Internal water supply network
- Effluent disposal and environmental safeguards
Mr. Patel also issued strategic directions to officials to ensure timely execution and adherence to quality standards.
Tree Plantation Drive to Promote Green Development
In line with the state’s commitment to sustainable development, Mr. Patel also participated in a tree plantation drive during his visit. The initiative underscores the government’s aim to balance industrial growth with ecological responsibility.
Project Timeline and Vision
The overall project is being developed at an estimated cost of ₹3,920 crore and is slated for completion by March 2027. Once operational, the park is expected to attract major investments in the pharma sector, generate employment, and enhance Gujarat’s leadership in the life sciences and healthcare ecosystem.
