Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Government, through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF), has extended critical financial support to 2,106 cancer patients over the past four years, providing them with a new lease on life. From 2021 to 2025, the fund disbursed over ₹31.55 crore for life-saving cancer treatments, underscoring the state’s commitment to healthcare for economically disadvantaged citizens.
CMRF: A Lifeline in Times of Crisis
The Chief Minister’s Relief Fund has emerged as a robust safety net for the citizens of Gujarat, assisting individuals during natural disasters, accidents, and severe medical conditions. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the fund has been made more responsive, citizen-focused, and timely, ensuring that no patient is denied critical medical care due to financial constraints.
Focus on Serious Health Conditions
The primary goal of CMRF is to provide life-saving treatment to patients who cannot afford expensive medical procedures. The fund covers serious conditions including cancer, heart disease, kidney and liver failure, and organ transplants. Eligible applicants must have an annual income of less than ₹4 lakh (₹6 lakh for senior citizens) and submit relevant medical documentation along with residency proof. Applications undergo rigorous verification by the Revenue Department before final approval by the CMRF Committee, which includes the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, and other senior officials. Approved funds are directly transferred to the patient’s account or hospital to ensure timely treatment.
Substantial Support for Cancer Patients
Between 2021 and 2025, the CMRF has directly aided 2,106 cancer patients across Gujarat. This includes 450 patients with blood cancer, including those undergoing bone marrow transplants, and 1,656 patients with other types of cancer. The financial assistance provided has been pivotal in covering costly treatment procedures, enabling patients to access timely and advanced care without financial burden.
Direct Assistance at Leading Cancer Hospitals
The fund extends support through top cancer care institutions in Gujarat, such as the Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute (GCRI) in Ahmedabad, Nathalal Parikh Cancer Research Institute in Rajkot, and B.T. Sawani Hospital, Bharat Cancer Hospital, Kiran Multi-Super Specialty Hospital, and AAIHMS in Surat. These hospitals provide state-of-the-art cancer treatment facilities, and through CMRF support, economically vulnerable patients receive care under the supervision of expert medical professionals.
A Model of Compassionate Governance
The Chief Minister’s Relief Fund has not only ensured that patients receive life-saving treatment but has also strengthened Gujarat’s healthcare ecosystem by making advanced medical care accessible to those in need. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s leadership has been instrumental in enhancing the fund’s reach, transparency, and efficiency, ensuring it continues to serve as a reliable source of hope for thousands of families across the state.
