Gujarat to Build ₹13,000-Crore International MediCity Near Kalol, Inspired by Dubai Healthcare City

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government is planning to establish an International MediCity near Kalol in Gandhinagar district with an estimated investment of ₹13,000 crore, in a major push to develop world-class healthcare infrastructure in the state. The ambitious project will be modelled on Dubai Healthcare City, one of the world’s leading integrated healthcare hubs.

According to Dr Jayanti Ravi, Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue Department, the proposed MediCity is expected to place Gandhinagar district prominently on the global healthcare map, attracting international patients, medical professionals, and investors.

World-Class Healthcare Ecosystem Planned

As per reports, the International MediCity will host Joint Commission International (JCI)-accredited hospitals, ensuring globally benchmarked standards of healthcare delivery. The project is envisioned as a centralised ecosystem for treatment, rehabilitation, and advanced medical services.

The MediCity will be supported by extensive allied infrastructure, including:

  • Medical and nursing colleges
  • Research and development (R&D) hubs
  • Pharma and biotechnology research zones
  • Medical devices manufacturing park
  • Cold chain and logistics facilities
  • Allied healthcare and wellness enablers

This integrated approach aims to strengthen Gujarat’s position as a hub for medical innovation, education, and high-quality patient care.

Boost to Medical Value Travel and Healthcare Tourism

The project is expected to be implemented through a Medical Value Travel Board, comprising representatives from the state health and tourism departments. Officials believe the MediCity will significantly boost medical tourism, drawing patients from India and abroad seeking advanced, cost-effective treatment.

The government has indicated that the project will be taken up on a priority basis, with a target to complete development by 2028.

Inspired by Dubai Healthcare City Model

Dubai Healthcare City is globally recognised as a premier healthcare and wellness destination, hosting international and regional providers across medical education, clinical services, residential facilities, and commercial development.

Strategic Step for Gujarat’s Healthcare Vision

The proposed International MediCity aligns with Gujarat’s broader vision of strengthening healthcare infrastructure, promoting innovation-led growth, and positioning the state as a preferred destination for global healthcare services. Once operational, the project is expected to transform Gandhinagar into a key node in India’s medical value travel and life sciences ecosystem.
