Six senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers in Gujarat — among 10 who have been waiting for postings since August 17, 2025 — were given temporary attachments at various departments in Police Bhavan, Gandhinagar. The order was issued by the state Home Department, but these are not full-fledged postings yet.
Who Got Assigned Where
According to the home department’s notification, the officers were attached to different wings without permanent charge:
- Tarun Duggal — Attached to CID Crime
- Chaitanya Mandlik — Attached to Police Reforms
- R. T. Susara — Attached to Technical Services
- Sudha Pandey and Sujata Majumdar — Attached to Police Training Department
- Mayur Patil (SP rank) — Attached to Law and Order Branch
These temporary roles are meant to keep the officers engaged while formal postings remain undecided.
Reasons Behind the Delay
The posting delays stem from broader administrative indecision in the state. Plans to create a new police commissionerate and an additional police range — expected to provide roles for recently promoted officers — have not yet been finalised.
Uncertainty at the Top
The uncertainty isn’t limited to these six officers. Several promoted DIG and SP-level officers are still awaiting regular assignments.
At the higher end of the hierarchy:
- Dr. K L N Rao continues as in-charge Director General of Police (DGP)
- Dr. Shamsher Singh, a senior officer newly returned from central deputation, has yet to be given a role, even though his retirement is only a month away.
Concerns Within the Force
Police sources say it’s unusual for such a large number of DIG-rank officers to remain without substantive postings for so long. The temporary attachments have sparked internal discussions and frustration over the slow pace of filling key vacancies across the force.
