Gujarat: Gujarat is exploring potential cooperation with Luxembourg in green finance and long-term infrastructure development, following a high-level meeting between Bhupendra Patel and Gilles Roth in Gandhinagar. Officials confirmed the discussions on Thursday, highlighting ways to leverage Luxembourg’s expertise in sustainable finance and green bonds.
The meeting, described as a courtesy call by the Luxembourg Grand Duchy delegation, focused on strengthening Gujarat’s presence in green energy, green financing, and sustainable growth initiatives.
Gujarat Aims to Lead in Green Energy and Sustainable Development
During the meeting, CM Bhupendra Patel said, “Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Gujarat has maintained prudent financial management and is ready to take the lead in green energy and sustainable growth.”
He emphasized that Gujarat is eager to benefit from Luxembourg’s experience in green bonds and green financing to reinforce the state’s sustainable development agenda. The Chief Minister also highlighted India’s Renewable Energy initiatives and Mission LIFE, stating that responsible environmental practices and green growth can be promoted through municipal green bonds, long-term infrastructure projects, and a sustainable development framework.
Luxembourg Expresses Interest in Strengthening Financial Ties
Gilles Roth highlighted Luxembourg’s global financial presence, noting that the country oversees €8 trillion in assets across 115 banks and maintains investment services in nearly 80 countries. He expressed interest in expanding financial relations with India and Gujarat.
Roth also referenced the MoU between GIFT City’s International Financial Services Centers Authority and Luxembourg’s Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier, which strengthens financial cooperation and enhances Gujarat’s global financial connectivity.
He showed interest in increasing investments in Ahmedabad’s GIFT City and other international finance sectors.
Invitations for Global and Regional Events
CM Patel invited the Luxembourg delegation to participate in the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in January 2027, as well as South and Central Gujarat Regional Conferences in April and June 2026. In return, Roth extended an invitation to CM Patel and a Gujarat delegation to visit Luxembourg to explore further financial collaboration.
Strengthening Gujarat’s Green Growth Vision
This engagement marks a significant step in Gujarat’s strategy to integrate sustainable finance and green infrastructure projects into its long-term development plans. By collaborating with Luxembourg, the state aims to boost its international financial connectivity, attract investment, and advance its green energy and sustainable development initiatives.
