Ahmedabad– Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has approved an allocation of ₹822 crore for the modernization of 91 urban roads across the state under the ambitious ‘Vikas Path Yojana’ (Development Path Scheme), in line with the state’s observance of 2025 as the Urban Development Year.
Major Urban Road Upgrade Across 233 Kilometers
The initiative covers 91 roads stretching a total of 233 kilometers, connecting and passing through various cities and towns in Gujarat. These roads fall under the jurisdiction of the Roads and Buildings Department, and the project aims to bring them up to modern standards with a wide range of urban infrastructure enhancements.

Comprehensive Infrastructure Development
The scope of the project includes:
- Road widening
- Installation of electric poles and street lights
- Modern road furniture and railings
- Footpaths and stormwater drainage systems
- Development of junctions and bus bays
- Concrete road surfaces
- Beautification of medians
- Enhanced road safety measures
These features are expected to improve traffic management, boost commuter safety, and reduce urban congestion.
Quality of Urban Life to Improve
According to officials, this large-scale infrastructure overhaul will lead to smoother vehicle flow, fewer traffic jams, and shorter travel times, which will in turn help conserve fuel and reduce air and noise pollution. Additionally, the improved roadways are designed to make public transport more efficient and enhance the overall quality of urban life.
The state government said the Vikas Path initiative is a step toward building sustainable and smart urban centers, aligning with Gujarat’s broader development vision.
