Bengaluru: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on Tuesday celebrated its 86th Foundation Day, highlighting its legacy in India’s aerospace and defence sector while reiterating its ambitions to emerge as a globally competitive player in the industry. The celebrations were held at HAL’s New HMA Campus in Bengaluru, attended by His Highness Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, Member of Parliament and Custodian of the Royal House of Mysore, along with HAL’s Board of Directors, Chief Executive Officers, Executive Directors, former CMDs, and employees.
Tribute to HAL’s Historic Roots
During the event, His Highness Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar unveiled the bust of His Highness Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar at the campus, paying homage to the Maharaja’s role in founding HAL at the young age of 21. He lauded HAL’s contributions to India’s aeronautical industry and noted that the company continues to guide the growth of the nation’s aerospace and defence sector.

HAL’s Vision for the Future
Addressing the gathering, HAL Chairman and Managing Director Dr. D K Sunil emphasized the company’s ongoing transformation journey. Key initiatives highlighted included:
- Digitalisation across operations and adoption of artificial intelligence
- Expansion of production capacity and operational excellence
- Establishment of a dedicated Research and Development Centre for space
Dr. Sunil stressed the importance of institution-building beyond technology, stating, “It requires leadership that consistently builds capabilities.” He called for sustained execution across all domains, enhanced operational efficiency, and deeper indigenisation to strengthen India’s self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

As part of the celebrations, HAL unveiled the cover of a special publication by Amar Chitra Katha and introduced the HAL MyStamp, reflecting the company’s effort to document its 86-year legacy and engage with a wider audience. These initiatives highlight HAL’s commitment to preserving its history while inspiring future generations.
