Chief Minister Mr. Hemant Soren formally inaugurated the five‑day Diwali fair organized by the Jharkhand IAS Officers’ Wives Association (JIASOWA) at Morabadi Ground, Ranchi. The event marks the silver jubilee of JIASOWA and underscores its long‐standing commitment to social welfare and community upliftment.
Fair Proceeds to Aid Vulnerable Communities
Unlike many festival fairs primarily driven by commerce, Mr. Soren reminded attendees that all proceeds from this fair are dedicated to public welfare initiatives. He praised JIASOWA’s focus on using festival earnings to benefit the poor, needy, and socially disadvantaged.
Honouring Social Work and Promoting Literacy
During the inauguration, individuals involved in outstanding social service were felicitated. A new library was also launched, expanding JIASOWA’s infrastructure for educational outreach.
Beyond Commerce: Service, Upliftment and Community Impact
The Chief Minister contrasted JIASOWA’s mission with that of conventional festival fairs, noting that while many fairs focus largely on trade, JIASOWA anchors its events around social responsibility. He affirmed that the organization, led by IAS officers’ spouses, plays a vital role in societal upliftment across Jharkhand.
Artisan Empowerment and Wider Participation
According to earlier event announcements, the fair features more than 200 stalls highlighting Swadeshi garments, tribal cuisine, and traditional arts. Artisans and women entrepreneurs from across states such as Gujarat, Rajasthan, Bihar, and neighboring regions are participating, showcasing diversity and fostering cross‑regional cultural exchange.
Looking Ahead: Sustainability, Welfare and Legacy
Mr. Soren’s remarks and the event itself signal a model for festival governance that ties celebration to public development. The emphasis on social welfare, connectivity through culture, and community support paints a vision of festivals as instruments of development, not merely commerce.
