Visakhapatnam – Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) celebrated the 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervour at its colony parade ground, highlighting both national pride and exceptional organisational milestones. The celebration, marked by a ceremonial flag hoisting and parade, also served as a platform for HSL to reflect on a year of record-breaking financial achievements and strategic advancements.
Flag Hoisting and Parade
Cmde Girideep Singh, IN (Retd.), Chairman and Managing Director of HSL, unfurled the national flag and reviewed the Independence Day parade. The march-past featured contingents from Security and Fire Services, NCC cadets, Scouts and Guides, Rover Scouts, and students from HSL’s schools and the surrounding community.
Historic Financial Turnaround
In his address, the CMD commended the workforce for their unwavering dedication, which resulted in HSL achieving the highest-ever turnover of ₹1,471 crore and a record Profit After Tax (PAT) of ₹213 crore in FY 2024–25. Notably, HSL reported a positive net worth for the first time in 40 years, paving the way for potential Mini Ratna status.
Operational Milestones and Defence Contributions
Cmde Singh highlighted major accomplishments including:
- Successful delivery of INS Nistar and INS Sindhukirti
- Completion of a semi-submersible pontoon
- Commencement of construction for all four Fleet Support Ships (FSS) within the current fiscal year
These developments underscore HSL’s growing expertise in delivering complex defence platforms, reinforcing its critical role in India’s maritime defence ecosystem.
Driving Towards Industry 4.0 and Future Readiness
Looking ahead, the CMD outlined HSL’s strategic roadmap involving:
- Adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies
- Operational excellence programmes
- Infrastructure modernisation
- Upgrades to accounting and corporate governance standards
He urged employees to “work with integrity and innovate for excellence” to keep HSL globally competitive and future-ready.
Commitment to Reforms and National Vision
Reinforcing the Ministry of Defence’s “Year of Reforms” and aligning with the PM’s Maritime Vision 2030 and Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, Singh pledged that HSL would continue pushing forward with transformative initiatives to support Aatmanirbhar Bharat and India’s evolving naval needs.
Celebrating Employees and Environment
The ceremony also recognised employee excellence with commendation letters and awards for winners of the Clean & Green competition. A tree plantation drive under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ was conducted, and 500 national flags were distributed and hoisted across the premises as part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign.
