In a significant move towards administrative efficiency, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has successfully freed 79,774 square feet of office space across its establishments and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).
This initiative is part of the Special Swachhata Campaign, which ran from November 2024 to August 2025, focusing on decluttering workspaces and enhancing environmental sustainability.
Extensive Swachhata Drives Across the Nation
During the campaign period, the MHA conducted 2,405 Swachhata drives at various sites, including field and outstation offices. These efforts were aimed at promoting cleanliness and optimizing office spaces for better functionality.
Efficient Disposal of Pending Matters
The campaign also targeted the resolution of long-pending administrative matters.
Notably, the MHA disposed of 493 references from Members of Parliament, two proposals from the Cabinet, 104 references from State Governments, and 30 communications from the Prime Minister’s Office.
Additionally, a total of 40,880 public grievances and 1,864 appeals were addressed during this period.
Digital Integration for Streamlined Monitoring
To ensure effective coordination and real-time monitoring, the MHA utilized a dedicated intra-ministry digital portal.
This platform enabled all divisions, Union Territories, and Delhi Police to upload and track campaign-related data, enhancing transparency and accountability.
Alignment with Special Campaign 5.0
This initiative aligns with the broader Special Campaign 5.0, launched by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG).
The campaign aims to promote cleaner, more efficient, and environmentally responsible government offices.
The MHA has emphasized the importance of sustainability, digitization, and efficient record management in achieving these goals.
Commitment to Sustainable Governance
Through these concerted efforts, the MHA has demonstrated its commitment to building a cleaner and more efficient governance ecosystem.
The focus remains on creating organized, green, and citizen-friendly workspaces, in line with the vision of Swachh Bharat and administrative excellence.
Way forward
This initiative by the MHA underscores the government’s dedication to enhancing administrative efficiency and promoting sustainable practices within its establishments. By reclaiming office space and addressing pending matters, the MHA is setting a precedent for other ministries to follow in creating efficient and environmentally responsible workplaces.
