New Delhi: In a significant boost to India’s gig economy, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has teamed up with Amazon India to expand Project Ashray, launching 40 new rest centers across the country dedicated to delivery partners. The newest facility, inaugurated in Delhi’s Rohini area by MP Yogender Chandolia, marks a major step in the joint initiative to provide safe, hygienic, and accessible resting spaces for delivery workers.
HPCL’s Fuel Stations Reimagined as Delivery Partner Havens
Under the expanded Project Ashray, HPCL fuel stations are being transformed into fully equipped Ashray Centers that offer air-conditioned seating, clean washrooms, drinking water, mobile charging points, and first-aid facilities. These centers are free for all delivery partners, irrespective of the platform they work for, reinforcing HPCL’s commitment to welfare and support within the gig economy.
Murali Krishna V Vadrevu, Executive Director of HPCL, emphasized the company’s vision: “This collaboration reimagines fuel stations as havens for delivery partners across India, providing them with much-needed comfort and safety during their long working hours.”
Amazon’s Commitment to Delivery Partner Welfare
Since the inception of Project Ashray in 2024, Amazon India has expanded its network to 65 centers in 13 cities, with 24 operational in the Delhi NCR region alone. The company aims to reach 100 centers by the end of 2025. According to Amazon India’s Director of Operations, Salim Memon, the project underscores Amazon’s dedication to the welfare of delivery partners, especially as they navigate the challenges of their demanding roles.
“With nearly 70% growth in Ashray Center usage since launch, it is clear these rest stops are filling a critical need,” Memon noted.

Preparing for the Festive Season with Enhanced Support
The expansion comes as Amazon ramps up operations for the upcoming festive season, having announced the creation of over 150,000 seasonal jobs across 400+ cities. This strategic collaboration with HPCL ensures delivery partners have safe, reliable rest points amid heightened delivery demands.
MP Yogender Chandolia praised the initiative, calling Project Ashray “precisely what India’s rapidly expanding gig economy requires” and applauding Amazon and HPCL for their efforts to support frontline delivery professionals.
