Kochi/New Delhi: The Indian Navy will host the Emerging Leaders Panel Discussion under the framework of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) from August 27 to 28, 2025, at the Southern Naval Command in Kochi. The two-day event will focus on maritime security, regional cooperation, and the role of young naval leaders across the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

Strengthening Regional Maritime Dialogue

The panel is part of IONS’ broader mission to foster dialogue and cooperation among littoral states of the IOR. Young naval officers from 18 IONS member nations will participate, sharing perspectives on pressing maritime challenges and security priorities.

Key Themes of Discussion

The panel will address four central themes:

  • Strategic importance of the IOR and challenges from young officers’ perspectives.
  • Emerging technologies in maritime security.
  • Future role of IONS in fostering collaboration for regional stability.
  • Harnessing training capabilities among IONS countries with a future roadmap.

Vice Admiral V. Srinivas, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, will preside as Chief Guest.

IONS: India’s Maritime Vision Since 2008

Conceived by the Indian Navy in 2008, IONS provides an inclusive platform for dialogue on regionally relevant maritime issues. The forum enhances maritime cooperation among IOR navies and supports collective security.

Recently, the Indian Navy hosted the IONS Working Group on Maritime Security (IWG-MARSEC) in New Delhi from June 24 to 25, 2025. The meeting reinforced member navies’ collective resolve to safeguard a stable and secure Indian Ocean.
