New Delhi: Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) today announced a sharp 1128% year-on-year (YoY) increase in its Profit After Tax (PAT) for the quarter ended June 30, 2025 (Q1 FY26), driven by robust operational performance, record throughput, and strategic expansion initiatives across refining and marketing segments.
HPCL reported a PAT of ₹4,371 crore for Q1 FY26, up from ₹356 crore in the same quarter last year. Consolidated PAT stood at ₹4,111 crore, compared to ₹634 crore in Q1 FY25. Revenue from operations for the quarter was ₹1,20,135 crore, marginally lower than ₹1,20,878 crore reported in Q1 FY25, while Gross Refining Margin (GRM) declined to US$3.08 per barrel from US$5.03 per barrel.

Operational Highlights
HPCL achieved a refinery throughput of 6.66 million metric tonnes (MMT) during the quarter, reflecting a 15.6% YoY growth, with an average utilisation rate of 109%. The Visakh Refinery posted its highest-ever quarterly throughput of 4.16 MMT (111% utilisation), while the Mumbai Refinery operated at 106% capacity, achieving a throughput of 2.50 MMT. The company also processed four new crude grades—three imported and one indigenous.
Fuel & Loss performance was at a record low of 6.88 wt%, indicating high operational efficiency.
Marketing and Sales Performance
Market sales volumes (including exports) reached an all-time high of 13.04 MMT, marking a 3.2% increase YoY. Domestic sales grew by 1.9%, with the combined sale of petrol and diesel standing at 8.11 MMT. LPG sales surged by 6.6% to 2.21 MMT.
Retail: Achieved highest-ever quarterly Motor Spirit (MS) sales of 2.62 MMT (↑5.4%) and CNG sales of 310 TMT (↑22.1%).
Aviation: Posted sales of 291 TMT (↑11.4%). Signed a five-year agreement with NCPOR to support India’s Antarctic expeditions.
Pipelines: Recorded a throughput of 6.70 MMT.
The company also made its first-ever lubricant exports to Indonesia, expanding its global footprint.
Strategic Investments and Infrastructure Development
Total capital expenditure for Q1 FY26 stood at ₹2,860 crore, with focus on refining and marketing infrastructure, and investment in subsidiaries and joint ventures.
Barmer Refinery & Petrochemical Project (HRRL):
- Overall progress: 88%
- Capex incurred: ₹59,287 crore (of ₹72,814 crore committed)
- Crude-in to CDU expected later this year
Residue Upgradation Facility (Visakh): Pre-commissioning completed; commissioning expected in coming weeks.
LPG Cavern at Mangalore (80 TMT): PESO approval received; PCB clearance awaited to initiate gas-in.
Digital and Strategic Initiatives
HPCL launched Project Samriddhi in May 2025, targeting EBITDA margin improvement of $0.50 per barrel through cost optimization and operational efficiency. Early gains from this initiative have already started accruing. Another project, ‘Abhyuday’, aims to increase throughput per retail outlet.
New digital tools such as a cloud-based CRM, Central Energy Monitoring System, and hyperlocal marketing platforms have also been implemented.
Sustainability and Energy Transition
Compressed Biogas (CBG): One new plant commissioned under SATAT, taking the total to 16. Active LOIs now stand at 127 with a combined capacity of 311.50 TMT.
Renewables (HPRGEL): Mechanical completion of 5.6 MWp under the Delhi Greening Project achieved.
Retail Transition: 33 new CNG outlets commissioned (Total: 2,071), while 90 retail outlets were solarized, raising the renewable-powered network to 94% (22,443 outlets).
Research & Development
HPCL’s Green R&D Centre (HPGRDC), Bengaluru, signed a global licensing agreement with Pacific Industrial Development Corporation for HP-NanoPro. As of June 30, 2025, HPGRDC has filed 669 patents, with 259 granted.
Network Expansion
- Retail outlets commissioned: 154 (Total: 23,901)
- New LPG distributors: 6 (Total: 6,384)
- PNG connections: 8,024 added (Total: 1,24,484)
- Steel/MDPE pipelines laid: 711 inch-km and 164 km respectively
