New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved two key appointments to the Vice-President’s Secretariat, marking a strategic move to strengthen administrative support for Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan.
In the official order dated September 14, 2025, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) announced the appointment of Chandrasekar S., a 2014-batch IAS officer of the Kerala cadre, as Private Secretary to the Vice-President. Currently serving as Deputy Director at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie, he has now been relieved from his post to take up this new role.
His tenure will continue till February 28, 2028, on a co-terminus basis with the Vice President, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Appointment Details as per Government Order
The appointment was formally conveyed through a memorandum signed by Deputy Secretary Anees Kannani Joy, stating:
“Chandrasekar S. has been appointed as Private Secretary to the Vice President of India (C.P. Radhakrishnan) at the level of Deputy Secretary in the Vice President’s Secretariat till February 28, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The appointment shall be effective from the date of assumption of charge.”
Amit Khare Appointed Secretary to Vice President on Contractual Basis
In a parallel development, retired IAS officer Amit Khare (IAS:1985:JH) has been appointed as Secretary to the Vice-President on a three-year contract. His appointment is also effective from the date he assumes charge.
A veteran administrator, IAS Khare has held prestigious positions including Secretary, Information and Broadcasting, and Secretary, Higher Education, where he was instrumental in framing the National Education Policy 2020. Post-retirement, he was appointed Adviser to the Prime Minister, handling key assignments in the social sector.
IAS Khare is an alumnus of St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, and IIM Ahmedabad, and is widely regarded for his policy acumen and clean administrative record.
Strengthening the Vice-President’s Office
The twin appointments underscore the Centre’s focus on deploying competent and experienced officers to assist constitutional authorities. While Chandrasekar S. brings youthful administrative energy to the table, Khare’s appointment ensures senior-level strategic and policy support.
These decisions are seen as part of a broader effort to streamline operations within the Vice-President’s Secretariat, which plays a pivotal role in Parliamentary coordination, especially with the Rajya Sabha.
