Central: Major Secretary Level Reshuffle, Apurva Chandra Made Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare

Officer Ashish Kumar Bhutani assumes office as a secretary in the Ministry of Cooperation, while Officer Sanjay Jaju assumes charge as secretary in theMinistry of Information & Broadcasting

On February 3rd, in a major secretary-level reshuffle enacted by the Central Government, as many as five officers got upgraded to the secretariat. As of now, only four secretary-rank positions lay unoccupied.

A major shake-up in the central secretariat:

1988 batch IAS officer of Maharashtra cadre, Mr Apurva Chandra, Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, has been made Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare.

1988 batch retired IAS officer of Uttarakhand cadre, Mr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu has been appointed as Secretary to the Lokpal on contract basis for a period of one year. He is former Uttarakhand Chief Secretary.

1990 batch IAS officer of UT cadre, Mr Raj Kumar Goyal has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Border Management, Ministry of Home Affairs.

1990 batch IAS officer Niten Chandra, Secretary, Department of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Law & Justice, has been appointed as Secretary, Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, Ministry of Defence.

K Moses Chalai, also an IAS officer of 1990 batch, Secretary, North Eastern Council Secretariat, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, has been appointed as Secretary, Inter State Council Secretariat, Ministry of Home Affairs.

Anil Malik, an IAS officer of 1991 batch of Haryana cadre, has been appointed as Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development vice Indevar Pandey (IAS: 1988: WB) upon his superannuation on 29.02.2024.

Sumita Dawra (IAS: 1991: AP) has been appointed as Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment vice Arti Ahuja (IAS: 1990: OR) upon her superannuation on 29.02.2024.

Vijay Kumar (IAS: 1992: UT), Special Secretary, Ministry of Cooperation, has been appointed as Chairman, Inland Waterways Authority of India, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways in the rank and pay of Secretary to the Government of India by temporarily upgrading the post.

Ashish Kumar Bhutani (IAS: 1992: AM) has been appointed as Secretary, Ministry of Cooperation.

Sanjay Jaju (IAS: 1992: TG) has been appointed as Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting.
In-situ upgradation of the following officers to the level of Special Secretary

P Daniel (IDES: 1989), Secretary, Central Vigilance Commission, has been appointed as Secretary, Central Vigilance Commission in the rank and pay of Secretary to the Government of India.

Rashmi Chowdhary (IRPS: 1989), Secretary, Central Information Commission, Department of Personnel and Training, has been appointed as Secretary, Central Information Commission, Department of Personnel and Training in the rank and pay of Secretary to the Government of India.

A Neeraja (IFoS: 1990: UP), Additional Secretary, Department of Fertilizers, has been appointed as Special Secretary, Department of Fertilizers.

Shyam Bhagat Negi (IPS: 1990: HP), Additional Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat (SR), has been appointed as Special Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat (SR).

The ACC has also approved the below appointments-

Reeta Vasishta, In-charge, Central Agency Section, Ministry of Law & Justice, has been appointed as Member Secretary, 22nd Law Commission of India.
