Guwahati: Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Governor of Assam, on Thursday interacted with IAS probationers of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, urging them to prioritise citizen-centric governance and effective implementation of welfare schemes.
The interaction took place at Lok Bhavan, where five probationers called on the Governor as part of their orientation programme.
Focus on Welfare of Vulnerable Sections
Congratulating the young officers on joining the civil services, the Governor emphasised the importance of ensuring that government schemes reach vulnerable and marginalised sections of society effectively.
He encouraged the probationers to remain sensitive to public needs and work towards inclusive development.
Emphasis on Integrity and Accountability
Acharya highlighted the core values of public service, stressing the need for:
- Integrity
- Transparency
- Accountability
He urged the officers to uphold these principles throughout their careers to build trust in governance.
Call for Innovation and Digital Governance
The Governor also encouraged the probationers to embrace innovation and adopt modern administrative approaches under the guiding principle of “Reform, Perform, Transform.”
He pointed to the increasing role of digital governance and emerging technologies in improving administrative efficiency and service delivery.
Senior Officials Present
Senior officials from Lok Bhavan were present during the interaction, including S S Meenakshi Sundaram, Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor.
Preparing Future Administrators
The interaction forms part of the orientation programme designed to familiarise IAS probationers with governance priorities and administrative responsibilities in the region.
