Jaipur: The opposition in Rajasthan has escalated criticism against the state government over the prolonged delay in posting IAS, IPS, and Tehsildar officers who were promoted in January 2025 but have yet to receive their new assignments even after more than six months.
Highlighting the issue as a serious governance concern, opposition leaders say this delay is crippling administrative efficiency and directly impacting public service delivery. Approximately 250 Tehsildars are still functioning in their junior roles despite their promotions, causing bottlenecks in local administration.
“Such an extended delay in routine postings is unprecedented and indicative of administrative inertia that hampers effective governance,” former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said.
Administrative Delay Affecting Public Services and Governance
Opposition members warn that the ongoing delay is not only hurting officer morale but is also creating major difficulties for citizens seeking essential government services. They argue that the government’s failure to act swiftly is hindering the implementation of welfare schemes and slowing down decision-making, thereby affecting the state’s overall development.

Gehlot Weighs In: Calls Delay ‘Administrative Chaos’
Ex-CM Gehlot has weighed in on the controversy, describing the situation as “administrative chaos” and demanding immediate resolution.
In a recent social media post, Gehlot noted, “This is not just a matter of officers’ rights and promotions. The delay is seriously impacting governance and the ability to address public problems effectively.”
He further stressed that such lapses are eroding the morale of officers, diminishing their efficiency and dedication, and are detrimental to the government’s public service mandate.
Ruling Party Denies Allegations, Cites Transparency
While the opposition demands urgent action, the ruling party denies any administrative failure, asserting that all postings are conducted following due process with transparency. Officials claim that the delay is procedural and assure the public that the situation will be resolved soon.
However, the opposition remains unconvinced and has intensified calls for administrative reforms to improve transparency, accountability, and timely postings.
Political Pressure Mounts as Public Awaits Action
As public dissatisfaction grows, political pressure mounts on the state government to address the backlog in officer postings and streamline administrative processes. Both political parties and civil society advocates stress that resolving this issue is critical to restoring effective governance and accelerating Rajasthan’s development agenda.
