In a significant initiative to enhance the functioning of Government Residential Welfare Hostels for Girls in Telangana, 29 women IAS officers will inspect these institutions and stay overnight to gain firsthand insights. Their assessments will cover educational standards, infrastructure, hostel management, and the implementation of the common diet program.
Chief Secretary Ms. A. Santhi Kumari (1989-batch IAS officer) stated that the first phase of inspections will conclude by January 25, 2025. A review meeting will follow to discuss the feedback and suggest improvements.
The inspections are part of a directive issued earlier this month, mandating women officers from All India Services (AIS) to visit the State’s 540 girls’ residential schools, identify gaps, and propose solutions.
During a teleconference on January 9, 2025, Ms. Santhi Kumari emphasized the importance of these visits in identifying challenges and ensuring better management of the hostels. Following the review meeting, AIS officers at all levels will continue the visits.
