The Uttar Pradesh government has removed Mr. Anil Kumar Sagar, a 1998-batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, from his position as Chairman of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA). He has also been relieved of his additional responsibilities as Principal Secretary for Infrastructure and Industrial Development, IT and Electronics, and NRI Affairs. Mr. Sagar has been placed on the waiting list for a new posting.
This action follows critical observations made by the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court regarding irregularities in YEIDA. On December 11, the court directed the state government to take appropriate action against Sagar or face judicial intervention during the next hearing, scheduled for Monday.
The controversy centers on Officer Sagar’s decisions while serving as both YEIDA Chairman and Principal Secretary of the UP Industrial Department. He is accused of issuing contradictory orders in two similar revision petitions filed by YEIDA allottees, acting in his capacity as the revisional authority. The case was brought to light through a writ petition filed by UG Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, which alleged that Sagar issued conflicting rulings—one favouring the petitioner and the other ruling against it.
Justice Pankaj Bhatia, who is presiding over the case, noted significant anomalies in the authority’s functioning and directed the state government to act decisively. The court underscored the importance of accountability, granting the government until Monday to respond.
This move highlights the state government’s commitment to addressing administrative irregularities and ensuring transparency in its industrial and infrastructure governance.
