1987 batch senior IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre, Ms. Veenu Gupta, has been made the Chairman of the Rajasthan Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA). The Rajasthan government issued the order on 28 September, 2023.
She is currently serving as the Additional Chief Secretary in the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME). Her tenure in this crucial new post will span 5 years.
This appointment comes following the vacancy left by the departure of NC Goyal, tetired IAS officer of 1982 batch, who stepped down from the post of RERA Chairman in April.
According to the order issued from the Urban Development Department, the tenure of Ms. Veenu Gupta will be for 5 years or till she attains the age of 65, whichever comes first.
Earlier, there was talk of making Veenu Gupta the Chief Secretary, but the state government extended the tenure of the current Chief Secretary Usha Sharma by 6 months. Due to this, her chance to become the Chief Secretary was lost.
The government had formed RERA with the aim of stopping the arbitrariness of builders in the state and so that people can get housing on time and without fraud.
Ms. Gupta’s retirement is in December this year. The Central Election Commission can announce assembly elections in the state any day next week. In such a situation, appointment was issued to Ms. Gupta before this.
She has previously held important positions in the state government including ACS Medical Health, Chairperson of Pollution Control Board, Commissioner Primary Education Council and many other departments.
The state government had also given big responsibility to Veenu Gupta’s husband, former IAS officer DB Gupta.
After retiring from the post of Chief Secretary, the Gehlot government had appointed Mr. Gupta as Chief Information Commissioner.
Mr. DB Gupta had held the post of Chief Secretary in both BJP and Congress governments.
