New Delhi: 2014 batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre, Mr Baranwal Varunkumar Jagdish has been appointed as Private Secretary (PS) to Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, according to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Tuesday.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved his appointment for a period up to August 19, 2029, marking a five-year tenure, or until he ceases to function as PS, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. His term will also be co-terminus with that of the Minister.
Mr Jagdish is currently serving as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Minister, a position he assumed on August 19, 2024, as per a DoPT order dated August 10, 2024. To accommodate his promotion to the role of PS, his tenure as OSD has been prematurely curtailed.
In his new assignment, Jagdish will function at the Deputy Secretary level, bringing his administrative expertise to assist the Minister in handling key portfolios related to commerce and industry.
