Patna: In a heartening initiative to promote mental health awareness and provide comfort to patients, members of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Officers’ Wives Association, Bihar, led by Executive President Dr. Ratna Amrit, visited the Bihar State Institute of Mental Health and Allied Sciences (BSIMHAS) in Koilwar, Bhojpur, on Sunday. The goodwill visit focused on evaluating patient care, inspecting ongoing infrastructure improvements, and raising awareness about mental health in the community.

Inspection and Engagement at the Institute

The team was warmly welcomed by the institute’s director, Dr. Jayesh Ranjan, along with senior officials, who briefed them on recent renovations, upgrades in treatment facilities, and enhancements in rehabilitation services. Dr. Ranjan highlighted that the institute provides care not only to patients from Bihar but also those coming from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Nepal.

During the visit, members of the association toured different wards, engaging with patients and distributing blankets and board games. This initiative was especially timely given the cold weather, offering patients both physical comfort and mental stimulation through recreational activities.

Promoting Environmental Awareness Alongside Mental Health

The program began with a tree plantation drive, where the members planted saplings within the institute’s premises. The association emphasized that a clean, green, and serene environment is vital for mental well-being, reinforcing the link between environmental conservation and mental health awareness.

Leadership Message

Executive President Dr. Ratna Amrit said that initiatives promoting mental health awareness and human-centric care are crucial steps toward empowering society. She added that the visit symbolized the association’s commitment to patients, their families, and the broader community, highlighting the values of empathy, service, and social responsibility.

Positive Impact of the Initiative

The goodwill visit successfully conveyed a dual message—enhancing mental health awareness while promoting environmental conservation. By combining practical support, recreational engagement, and environmental activities, the IAS Officers’ Wives Association left a lasting impact on patients, staff, and visitors at BSIMHAS.
