In a significant decision, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on Saturday, January 11, 2025, approved the repatriation of Prashant Kumar Singh, a 1993-batch Manipur cadre IAS officer currently serving as Secretary in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MoNRE), to his parent cadre in Manipur, following a formal request from the state government.
This move strongly suggests that Singh is poised to become the next Chief Secretary of Manipur, as the position has been vacant since Vineet Joshi, a 1992-batch Manipur cadre IAS officer, was transferred to Delhi on December 25, 2024, to serve as Secretary, Department of Higher Education, under the Ministry of Education.
A formal announcement regarding Singh’s appointment is expected soon. Reports indicate that Vineet Joshi has yet to relinquish his charge as Chief Secretary, pending the naming of his successor.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) confirmed the development in its order: “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the repatriation of Shri Prashant Kumar Singh, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, to his parent cadre on the request of the Government of Manipur.”
This repatriation aligns with the state’s administrative priorities and is seen as a step toward strengthening governance in Manipur.
