New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved a two-year extension for Dr Rajiv Bahl, currently serving as the Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Secretary, Department of Health Research. His extended tenure will now run from October 7, 2025, to October 6, 2027.
Dr Bahl was first appointed to the role on September 23, 2022, for a three-year term. Before his appointment at ICMR, Dr Bahl served in a senior leadership role at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland. He was the Head of Research on Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health, and also led the Newborn Unit under WHO’s Department of Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health and Ageing.
His tenure at ICMR has been marked by key developments in public health research, particularly in maternal and child health, infectious diseases, and pandemic preparedness.
NCRB Director Alok Ranjan Granted Apex Pay Scale
In a separate development, the ACC has also approved the Apex Pay Scale (Level-17 in the pay matrix) for Alok Ranjan (IPS: 1991: MP), currently serving as the Director of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Alok Ranjan was appointed as NCRB chief on September 22, 2024, succeeding Vivek Gogia (IPS: 1991: UT). He is expected to serve in this position until his superannuation in June 2026.
With this elevation, Alok Ranjan joins a select cadre of senior IPS officers placed at the highest pay level in the government system, underscoring the importance of his role in driving reforms and modernization in crime data analytics and law enforcement information systems.
