New Delhi: In a move reflecting India’s deepening diplomatic outreach in West Africa, the Government of India has appointed Sandeep Sood, an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of 2009 batch, as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Guinea.
MEA Confirms the Appointment
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) officially announced the appointment on Monday, June 16, 2025. In a formal statement, the Ministry said, “Shri Sandeep Sood (YOA:2009), presently Director in the Ministry, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Guinea.”
Mr Sood is a seasoned diplomat currently serving as Director in the Ministry of External Affairs, where he has been involved in key policy planning and international cooperation initiatives. He is expected to take up the new assignment shortly.
Strengthening India–Africa Ties
Mr Sood’s appointment comes amid India’s concerted efforts to enhance its strategic, economic, and cultural ties with African nations. The Republic of Guinea, located in West Africa, holds increasing importance in India’s Africa outreach policy, especially in terms of bilateral trade, energy collaboration, and South-South cooperation.
Over the years, India has extended development partnerships, capacity-building programs, and scholarships to Guinea and other African countries as part of its commitment to mutual growth and global south solidarity.
A Diplomatic Career of Depth and Direction
An officer of the 2009 Year of Allotment (YOA), Sandeep Sood has held several important assignments within the MEA and in Indian missions abroad. His appointment is seen as a strategic decision by the Indian government to place experienced diplomats in regions where India aims to scale up engagement.
