IIM Jammu Inaugurates General Management Programme to Strengthen NHPC Middle Management Leadership

Week-Long Executive Training to Enhance Leadership, Strategic Thinking, and Managerial Skills for India’s Public Sector Professionals

Jammu: The Indian Institute of Management Jammu (IIM Jammu) inaugurated the General Management Programme for Middle Management – Batch I for National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) Limited, a Government of India Navratna Enterprise, at the Vedanta MDP Centre, Jagti Campus. The programme aims to enhance managerial capabilities, leadership effectiveness, and strategic thinking among NHPC’s middle-level executives, reinforcing IIM Jammu’s commitment to executive education and industry partnerships.

Inaugural Ceremony Graced by IIM Jammu Leadership

The programme was inaugurated by Prof. B. S. Sahay, Director, IIM Jammu, who welcomed the 20 middle-management participants from NHPC representing various regions across India. The inaugural session included participant registration, a campus tour of the institute’s state-of-the-art facilities—including Smart Classrooms, the Vedanta Executive Education Block, and the Nalanda Library—and a ceremonial lamp lighting marking the formal commencement.

Also present were Prof. Jabir Ali, Dean Faculty and Research; Prof. Sanjeev Pathak, Chairperson, Executive Education and Consultancy (EE&C); Dr. Mahesh Gadekar and Dr. Gaana J., Programme Directors, and other senior faculty members of IIM Jammu.

Focus on Leadership, Strategic Thinking, and Practical Learning

During his address, Prof. Sahay emphasized that the six-day programme would provide a meaningful learning experience for both participants and faculty. He highlighted the project-based final session, in which participants will solve real organizational problems and present structured outcomes via PowerPoint presentations. Prof. Sahay encouraged active engagement, peer collaboration, and knowledge sharing from the public sector domain.

He also highlighted IIM Jammu’s global standing, noting the institute’s recent BGA Institutional Accreditation and EFMD Programme Accreditation, positioning it among the top five IIMs in India. Prof. Sahay mentioned the institute’s ongoing pursuit of AACSB accreditation, aiming to join the elite league of Triple Crown-accredited business schools.

Programme Designed for Mutual Learning and Industry Relevance

Prof. Jabir Ali stressed the programme’s role in fostering professional growth and mutual learning, with thoughtfully curated modules to ensure relevance for middle management. Prof. Sanjeev Pathak highlighted the programme’s alignment with NHPC’s organizational needs and emphasized three core principles guiding the Executive Education Centre: high-quality learning, measurable industry impact, and active engagement.

Dr. Mahesh Gadekar elaborated on the programme’s comprehensive coverage, including strategy, finance, project management, geopolitics, and mindful communication, using case studies, simulations, and leadership exercises. Dr. Gaana J. proposed the vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of NHPC, faculty, and the organizing team.

Week-Long Programme for Future-Ready Public Sector Leaders

The week-long programme features interactive sessions, case-based learning, simulations, leadership exercises, and strategic discussions. Coordinated by the EE&C vertical of IIM Jammu, represented by Mr. Pardeep Saini, Mr. Mohd. Arif, Ms. Rupali Jamwal, and Mr. Anil Singh, the programme reflects the institute’s commitment to developing future-ready leaders for India’s public sector enterprises through meaningful industry–academia collaboration.
