The Himachal Pradesh government announced the transfer of 2018 batch IPS officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre, Ms Ilma Afroz, to the position of Superintendent of Police (SP) in Lahaul-Spiti. This move comes after SP Kullu, Karthikeyan Gokulachandran (IPS: 2014: HP), will be relieved of the additional charge of SP Lahaul-Spiti following Afroz’s appointment.
The transfer follows a series of legal proceedings concerning Afroz’s earlier proposed posting. The Himachal Pradesh High Court had recently rejected a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that sought Afroz’s appointment as SP Baddi. In its ruling, the court upheld the government’s right to decide the posting and deployment of officers and lifted the stay on her transfer, which had been imposed in September 2024 due to pending investigations in a sexual harassment case in Nalagarh.
Prior to her new assignment, Afroz had been serving at the police headquarters after resuming duty following the High Court’s stay on her transfer. The new posting marks the end of the delay in her reassignment, signaling a fresh chapter in her career within the Himachal Pradesh Police.
