New Delhi: In a significant and calibrated military action, the Indian Armed Forces today executed ‘Operation Sindoor’, a targeted strike against terrorist infrastructure located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK). The operation was launched in response to the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam that left 26 people dead, including one Nepali national.
According to a statement issued by the Defence Ministry, the operation involved precision strikes on nine terror camps associated with proscribed groups including Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Hizbul Mujahideen (HM). The strikes were carried out through a coordinated effort involving the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, all conducted from Indian territory.
“This operation is focused, measured and non-escalatory,” the ministry said, emphasizing that no Pakistani military facilities were targeted. The goal, officials said, was to dismantle the infrastructure used to plan and launch cross-border terrorist attacks, while avoiding broader conflict.
The targets struck under Operation Sindoor include four locations deep inside Pakistan and five within Pakistan-occupied Kashmir:
- Markaz Subhan Allah, Bahawalpur – Jaish-e-Mohammed
- Markaz Taiba, Muridke – Lashkar-e-Taiba
- Sarjal, Tehra Kalan – Jaish-e-Mohammed
- Mehmoona Joya, Sialkot – Hizbul Mujahideen
- Markaz Ahle Hadith, Barnala – Lashkar-e-Taiba
- Markaz Abbas, Kotli – Jaish-e-Mohammed
- Maskar Raheel Shahid, Kotli – Hizbul Mujahideen
- Shawai Nalla Camp, Muzaffarabad – Lashkar-e-Taiba
- Syedna Bilal Camp, Muzaffarabad – Jaish-e-Mohammed
According to intelligence sources, these camps were being used not only for terrorist indoctrination and training, but also for logistical coordination, often under the oversight of Pakistan’s Special Services Group (SSG) and the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
The Pahalgam terror attack, described by Indian officials as “barbaric,” served as the immediate trigger for the military response. The government had vowed accountability and retribution for the killings, and Operation Sindoor is being seen as a direct manifestation of that promise.
As of now, no official response has been issued by the Pakistani government. India has reiterated that the operation was limited in scope and carefully calibrated to avoid escalation.
