New Delhi: India has taken a major step toward advanced maritime technology with the launch of the world’s first autonomous ship hub in Andhra Pradesh.

Developed by Sagar Defence Engineering and backed by the Andhra Pradesh government, the initiative highlights India’s growing focus on self-reliance in defence and maritime technology. The facility will be located at Juvvaladinne harbour in Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh, covering an area of nearly 29.58 acres.

The project is being developed by Sagar Defence Engineering, a Mumbai-based defence technology company that focuses on autonomous maritime systems.

The foundation stone for the centre was laid on 12 March 2026, in the presence of Andhra Pradesh HRD Minister Nara Lokesh.

Officials say the project reflects India’s growing ambition to become a global hub for maritime innovation and advanced shipbuilding technologies.

The new autonomous ship hub will function as a one-stop ecosystem for maritime engineering and innovation.
