The Indian contingent, consisting of 90 personnel, is primarily represented by a battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles, along with troops from other arms and services. Their French counterparts, also comprising 90 personnel, will be represented by soldiers from the 13th Foreign Legion Half-Brigade (13th DBLE).
Exercise SHAKTI is a biennial initiative aimed at enhancing bilateral military cooperation, improving interoperability, and strengthening operational coordination between the two armies. The 2025 edition will focus on joint operations in a sub-conventional environment, conducted in semi-urban terrain under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.
The joint drills will provide an opportunity for both contingents to practice and refine tactical procedures, exchange best practices in Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs), and train on modern equipment and technologies. The exercise also seeks to boost physical endurance, foster mutual respect, and deepen professional camaraderie.
SHAKTI-VIII highlights the deepening defence partnership between India and France and reflects their shared commitment to regional and global security.
