New Delhi: In a major step towards defence indigenisation and operational preparedness, BEML Limited has successfully inducted the Mechanical Minefield Marking Equipment Mark–II (MMME Mk-II) into the Indian Army. The state-of-the-art system, jointly developed by Research & Development Establishment (Engineers) [R&DE(E)], DRDO, and manufactured by BEML, is engineered for the rapid marking and fencing of minefields with minimal human involvement.

The equipment is a significant asset for the Indian Army, offering semi-automatic functionality and designed to operate in diverse terrains, including desert, semi-desert, and plains. The system not only accelerates the pace of minefield deployment but also enhances troop safety by reducing the risk of manual handling during operations.

A Collaborative Milestone in Defence Indigenisation

The induction ceremony was attended by key stakeholders, including Lt. Gen. Arvind Walia, AVSM, Engineer-in-Chief of the Indian Army, and Sanjay Som, Director (Defence and Mining & Construction), BEML. Senior officials from the Indian Army, scientists from DRDO, and industry partners were also present at the event.

The induction of MMME Mk-II is a testament to the synergy between India’s defence forces, research institutions, and indigenous manufacturing capabilities under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. It reflects the strong push for self-reliant, advanced military technology tailored to the Indian terrain and operational requirements.

Designed for Efficiency and Safety in Challenging Terrains

The MMME Mk-II is designed to mark minefields efficiently while significantly reducing the exposure of personnel to hazardous environments. Its integration into the Indian Army’s arsenal is expected to improve battlefield logistics, enhance operational mobility, and ensure safer, quicker deployment during strategic missions.

BEML’s role in the design and manufacturing of such advanced systems reinforces its status as a key player in India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem. The company continues to focus on high-performance solutions that bolster the armed forces’ capability while aligning with the national vision of technological sovereignty.
