Make in India Milestone: BEML Bags Rs294 Crore MoD Order for 150 Indigenous High Mobility Vehicles- Check Details

Bengaluru: BEML Limited, a Schedule ‘A’ public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Defence, has been awarded a significant contract worth ₹293.81 crore by the Ministry of Defence for the supply of 150 units of indigenously designed High Mobility Vehicles (HMVs) 6×6.

The vehicles will be primarily manufactured at BEML’s state-of-the-art manufacturing plants located in Palakkad and Mysore, with additional production planned at other divisions based on operational feasibility. These 6×6 HMVs are engineered to offer exceptional reliability and versatility, even in the most challenging and extreme environments.

Advanced Features for Superior Performance

Key features of the HMVs include an independent suspension system for enhanced mobility, a powerful air-cooled engine, a central tyre inflation system for adapting to varied terrains, an anti-lock braking system (ABS) for safety, and a backbone tube chassis design to ensure structural strength and durability. These vehicles are capable of operating in harsh climatic conditions, extreme terrains, and at high altitudes.

Strategic Role and Deployment

The 6×6 High Mobility Vehicles are expected to play a critical role in supporting general military operations as well as providing essential services and logistical support to some of India’s most remote and inaccessible regions. Their deployment highlights a strategic commitment to strengthening operational reach and ensuring vital resources are available even in the toughest terrains.
