Indian Bank Appoints Somesh Biswas as Part-Time Non-Official Director for 3 Years

Chennai: Indian Bank has appointed Mr. Somesh Biswas as a Part-time Non-Official Director on its Board of Directors for a period of three years. The appointment is effective from August 12, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The Central Government formalised the appointment through Notification No. eF. No. 6/2(iii)/2026-BO-I dated August 12, 2026, under the Banking Companies (Acquisition and Transfer of Undertakings) Act, 1970.

Somesh Biswas Appointed as Part-Time Non-Official Director

According to Indian Bank’s regulatory disclosure, Mr. Somesh Biswas has been nominated by the Central Government as a Part-time Non-Official Director on the bank’s Board.

His appointment will continue for:

  • Three years from August 12, 2026, or
  • Until further orders,

whichever is earlier.

The appointment is expected to add his experience in the insurance sector to the bank’s Board-level deliberations.

Somesh Biswas Has 34 Years of LIC Experience

Mr. Somesh Biswas is a retired employee of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) and has around 34 years of experience in the insurance sector.

During his career, he worked in various capacities, including as a Programmer at LIC’s Divisional Office in Silchar, Assam.

His academic qualifications include a Post Graduate degree in Arts (M.A.) and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.).

Mr. Biswas was born on November 1, 1960.

Appointment Meets Regulatory Requirements

Indian Bank has confirmed that Mr. Somesh Biswas meets the applicable requirements for his appointment to the Board.

The bank stated that:

  • He is not related to any of the existing Directors of Indian Bank.
  • He has not been debarred from holding the office of Director by any SEBI order or other regulatory authority.

The appointment has been made through the Central Government’s nomination under the applicable banking legislation.

Indian Bank Strengthens Board

The appointment of Somesh Biswas adds an experienced professional with a long background in the insurance sector to Indian Bank’s Board. His experience of more than three decades at LIC, along with his legal and postgraduate qualifications, is expected to bring additional expertise to the bank’s Board-level discussions and governance.
