Port Victoria/New Delhi: The First Training Squadron (1TS) of the Indian Navy, comprising INS Tir, INS Shardul, and ICGS Sarathi, departed Port Victoria, Seychelles on 4 September 2025. The four-day visit formed part of the Long Range Training Deployment and strengthened defence and cultural ties between the two maritime nations.
Strengthening Naval Partnership
During the port call, bilateral activities between the Indian Navy and Seychelles Defence Force (SDF) included professional exchanges, cross-training, and social interactions. Senior Officer 1TS, Capt Tijo K Joseph, along with commanding officers of INS Shardul and ICGS Sarathi, called on Seychelles Foreign Affairs and Tourism Minister Sylvestre Radegonde and Chief of Defence Forces, Maj Gen Michael Rosette.
The discussions reaffirmed the longstanding military collaboration between India and Seychelles. Maj Gen Rosette acknowledged India’s contribution to regional maritime cooperation and emphasized the need for enhanced partnership under evolving security challenges.
Diplomacy and Cultural Exchange
A deck reception hosted onboard 1TS ships brought together senior SDF leadership, members of the Indian diaspora, diplomats, and distinguished guests. The event highlighted India’s role as a trusted security partner in the Western Indian Ocean.
Naval trainees also engaged in cross-training with SDF personnel on small arms handling and firefighting. Professional exchanges extended to the Spanish Navy during the visit of ESPS Navarra, underscoring multilateral cooperation in the region.

Public Engagement and Community Outreach

A friendly football match between Indian Navy and SDF personnel fostered camaraderie, while community outreach activities included providing essential supplies and medical checkups at an elderly home in Point Larue.
Training for Future Leaders
For naval trainees, the visit offered first-hand exposure to international defence cooperation. The cadets toured the Seychelles Coast Guard Base and the Maritime Training & Support Centre, enhancing their understanding of operational environments.
These engagements enriched their training while deepening operational synergy with partner navies.
Commitment to MAHASAGAR Vision
