In a major push for transparency and enhanced user experience, Indian Railways has implemented a robust digital transformation of its ticketing infrastructure, introducing advanced anti-BOT systems and integrating with a top-tier Content Delivery Network (CDN) provider. This move has drastically curbed unauthorized automated bookings by agents and significantly improved access for genuine users, especially during high-demand Tatkal hours.
The upgraded system has successfully neutralized BOT traffic, which typically accounts for up to 50% of login attempts during the first five minutes of Tatkal bookings. As a result, 2.5 crore suspicious user IDs have been deactivated. A new benchmark was set on May 22, 2025, when the platform recorded its highest-ever booking rate of 31,814 tickets per minute, reflecting the system’s enhanced capacity and resilience.
To further ensure equitable access, the Railways has introduced new user verification protocols. Aadhaar-authenticated users can book tickets immediately, while non-Aadhaar users must wait three days post-registration to book Opening ARP, Tatkal, or Premium Tatkal tickets.
The impact of these reforms is evident in key metrics: average daily user logins surged by 19.53%, rising from 69.08 lakh in FY 2023–24 to 82.57 lakh in FY 2024–25. Ticket bookings also grew by 11.85% year-on-year. Notably, e-ticketing now accounts for 86.38% of all reserved ticket bookings, underscoring the success of Indian Railways’ digital drive.
