Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), expressed immense pride at Indore’s achievement. “It is a matter of great pride for the people of the state that Indore was honored as the cleanest city in the country in the ‘Super Swachh League Cities’ category,” he wrote.
The Chief Minister also congratulated all urban bodies, Safai Mitras, citizens, and public representatives whose collective effort made this achievement possible. He noted that the people of Madhya Pradesh have truly embraced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan as part of their lifestyle.
A Statewide Celebration of Civic Success
In addition to Indore, seven other Madhya Pradesh cities received national recognition:
- Bhopal: Second Cleanest Capital in India; also received the President’s Award
- Ujjain and Budhni: Included in the prestigious Super Swachh League Cities
- Dewas and Shahganj: Awarded the President’s Award
- Jabalpur and Gwalior: Received the Ministerial Award
This sweep across multiple categories highlights the state’s consistent investment in clean infrastructure and people-driven civic governance.
What Makes Indore a National Leader
Indore’s unmatched success in cleanliness stems from a robust and innovative approach:
- Six-bin waste segregation system
- Bio-CNG and solar-powered public transport
- Door-to-door electric garbage collection
- Zero-waste zones across key urban wards
The city processes nearly 1,900 tonnes of waste daily and uses technology-driven dashboards to monitor sanitation metrics in real-time. These practices have made Indore a model city for other urban local bodies across India—and even globally, with cities like Tel Aviv expressing interest in collaboration.
Cleanliness as a Culture
Indore’s sanitation workers marked the occasion with sweets and celebrations, underscoring the community pride involved in the mission. The city’s residents, too, have played a key role by actively participating in cleanliness campaigns, reducing single-use plastic, and supporting sustainable practices.
Dr. Yadav said that Madhya Pradesh has now established itself as the cleanliness vanguard of India, and pledged to carry this momentum forward by replicating the Indore model in other cities and towns of the state.
