Alexandria/New Delhi: Indian Navy’s stealth frigate INS Trikand reached Alexandria, Egypt, on September 1, 2025, as part of its operational deployment to the Mediterranean Sea. The warship is set to participate in Exercise Bright Star 2025, one of the region’s largest multilateral drills, scheduled from September 1–10.
India’s Tri-Service Participation
Alongside INS Trikand, contingents from the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force will also take part in the exercise. Bright Star 2025 is organised by Egypt and the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), covering air, land, and maritime domains.
The exercise focuses on regional security, countering hybrid threats, and enhancing interoperability. Apart from India, participants include the United States, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Greece, Cyprus, and Italy.

Naval Diplomacy in Alexandria
During its port call, INS Trikand will engage in professional interactions with senior Egyptian military officials. The schedule also includes cross-deck visits, cultural exchanges, and sports fixtures, fostering stronger people-to-people and naval ties.
The visit highlights India’s growing maritime cooperation in the Mediterranean region. It provides opportunities to strengthen bilateral as well as multilateral engagements with partner navies.
Strengthening Regional Maritime Cooperation
Through its deployment, INS Trikand aims to deepen interoperability with allied nations against both traditional and non-traditional maritime threats. Joint training and exchange of best practices remain a central focus, enhancing combined operational readiness.
The Mediterranean deployment reinforces India’s role as a reliable partner in global security initiatives, while advancing its broader vision of cooperative security across critical sea lanes.
