New Delhi: Indian Naval Ship (INS) Trishul arrived at Souda Bay, Greece, on October 31, 2026, as part of its ongoing deployment to the Mediterranean Sea. The port call aims to strengthen maritime cooperation and enhance professional engagement between the Indian Navy and the Hellenic Navy.
During the visit, the ship’s crew will participate in a series of professional, cultural and familiarisation activities. These engagements are expected to strengthen bilateral naval ties and promote greater understanding between the two maritime forces.
INS Trishul Crew to Participate in Professional and Cultural Activities
As part of the port call, INS Trishul’s personnel will interact with senior officials of the Hellenic Navy and representatives of the Indian Embassy in Athens.
The planned activities include:
- Professional discussions between the Indian Navy and Hellenic Navy personnel.
- Cross-deck visits to promote professional interaction and exchange of knowledge.
- Cultural exchanges between the two naval crews.
- Familiarisation visits to facilities at Naval Support Activity (NSA) Souda Bay.
- Exposure to the NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Centre (NMIOTC).
The visit to NSA Souda Bay and NMIOTC will provide the Indian Navy crew with an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the facilities and maritime training infrastructure available in Greece.
Greece hosts multinational maritime training programmes at NMIOTC, providing an international platform for professional engagement and maritime cooperation.

Crew to Pay Tribute at Souda Bay War Cemetery
During the port call, INS Trishul’s crew will also pay homage at the Souda Bay War Cemetery, honouring military personnel who lost their lives in service.
The Indian Navy has also announced that the warship will remain open to visitors during its stay at Souda Bay, allowing members of the public to visit the vessel and interact with its personnel.
Visit to Greece to Strengthen India-Hellenic Naval Relations
The visit is expected to further consolidate maritime cooperation and strengthen professional linkages between the Indian Navy and the Hellenic Navy.
INS Trishul’s deployment in the Mediterranean reflects India’s continued engagement with maritime partners in the region. Such port calls provide opportunities for naval personnel to exchange professional knowledge, build mutual understanding and strengthen cooperation on maritime security matters.
The visit to Greece follows INS Trishul’s earlier port call in Italy, where cross-deck activities and cultural exchanges with the Italian Navy further supported professional engagement and interoperability between the two navies.
These engagements highlight the Indian Navy’s efforts to build sustained relationships with international maritime partners and strengthen its presence in important global maritime regions, including the Mediterranean Sea.
