New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs has approved the assignment of additional charge of the post of Director General, Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) to Alok Ranjan, an IPS officer of 1991 batch from MP cadre, who is currently serving as Director, National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
This decision follows the repatriation of Rajeev Kumar Sharma, a 1990-batch IPS officer from the Rajasthan cadre, to his parent cadre, as he has been appointed the Director General of Police (DGP) of Rajasthan. Mr Ranjan will hold the additional charge until a regular appointment is made or until further orders, whichever is earlier, according to an official communication.
Profile of Alok Ranjan
An officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, Alok Ranjan has been serving as the head of the NCRB, where he has played a pivotal role in enhancing data-driven policing and modernizing national crime statistics.
His appointment to BPR&D adds a critical leadership role in police modernization, research, and development to his existing responsibilities, at a time when law enforcement in India is undergoing rapid transformation.
