Himanshu Kumar, a 2010-batch Uttar Pradesh cadre IPS officer currently posted in Manipur on deputation, has been cleared of corruption charges following a departmental inquiry. This comes after an earlier clean chit from a vigilance investigation, clearing the way for his promotion to the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG).
The case dates back to 2020, when Himanshu Kumar, then the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Gautam Budh Nagar, was accused along with four other IPS officers of corruption. Allegations included accepting bribes from local journalists and builders to influence transfers and postings of officials. In response to these claims, the Uttar Pradesh government had ordered both a vigilance probe and a departmental inquiry against Kumar.
While four other officers implicated in the case were already exonerated, Himanshu Kumar’s clearance from the departmental inquiry marks a key development in his case. Sources in the state home department confirmed that Kumar’s file has now been sent from the Chief Minister’s office to the home department for final approval. His promotion, which had been stalled due to the ongoing inquiry, is expected to be finalized soon.
This clearance opens the path for Himanshu Kumar’s promotion, allowing him to continue his career progression following a period of scrutiny.
