The police commissioner of Ahmedabad, Mr. Anup Kumar Singh, a 1985 batch Gujarat cadre police officer, was appointed Director-General, National Security Guard (NSG), as per an official order issued by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.
In an interview, the officer stated, “I am very happy to get this opportunity to serve the country.” An honest officer, his popularity hit its peak during the traffic drive in the city when his no-nonsense approach while dealing with parking problems in the city was praised by the very people used to disorderly parking in the city. His vision in making this city safe, especially for women, was evident when he got crores of rupees sanctioned from the Central Government from the Nirbhaya Fund.
Mr. Singh, who is yet to receive a relieving order from the state government is expected to move to Delhi early next week or by the middle of next week.
