Mr. Vimukt Ranjan, a 2009-batch Himachal Pradesh cadre IPS officer, has been selected for the prestigious President’s Police Distinguished Service Medal. The award, considered one of the highest recognitions in the field of policing, honors officers for their exceptional contribution to internal security and special services. Mr. Ranjan had earlier received the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2019, making this his second national-level honor.

Career Marked by Dedication and Leadership

Currently serving as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Special Protection Group (SPG) in New Delhi, Mr. Ranjan has played a crucial role in ensuring the security of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Known for his professionalism and commitment, his career reflects a consistent dedication to safeguarding national interests.

Administrative Journey from Hamirpur to National Security

A native of Hamirpur, Mr. Ranjan completed his schooling in his hometown and later graduated from Government College Dharamshala. With determination and hard work, he earned his place in the Indian Police Service and went on to serve in several challenging assignments across Himachal Pradesh.

Distinguished Tenure as Superintendent of Police, Kangra

From 2019 to 2022, Mr. Ranjan served as Superintendent of Police, Kangra district, where he is remembered for his strong administrative grip and community-oriented policing. He not only maintained law and order effectively but also spearheaded large-scale campaigns against narcotics trafficking. These operations led to the arrest of multiple offenders and the recovery of significant quantities of contraband, reinforcing the state’s efforts to combat drug smuggling.

Key Assignments and Leadership Roles

Before his tenure in Kangra, Mr. Ranjan held several important posts, including SP Vigilance, Additional SP Shimla, and ASP roles in Nurpur and Dehra, as well as DSP in Amb. He later served as Commandant of the Vangarh Battalion in Una before his induction into the SPG. Each assignment highlighted his ability to manage security challenges with precision and effectiveness.

A Legacy of Service and Security

Mr. Ranjan’s recognition with the President’s Police Distinguished Service Medal underscores his impactful role in both state-level policing and national security. His work in law enforcement, especially against narcotics and in high-level security operations, serves as an example of effective policing and administrative dedication.
