In a significant development ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has ordered a major reshuffle in the Delhi Police. The transfer, which involves Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) from three districts and four Additional Deputy Commissioners of Police (ADCPs), has been implemented with immediate effect.
The official notice from the Home Department reads: “The Lieutenant Governor, Delhi, is pleased to order the transfer/posting of the following IPS/DANIPS officers, presently posted in Delhi Police, with immediate effect as per the recommendations of the Police Establishment Board.”
A total of 11 officers have been transferred in this reshuffle. Notable among them are 2012 batch IPS officer of AGMUT cadre, Mr Abhishek Dhania, who has been moved from DCP North-West to DCP East; Mr Apporva Gupta, a 2013 batch IPS officer of AGMUT cadre, transferred from DCP East to DCP Crime; and 2012 batch IPS officer Bhisham Singh, now appointed DCP North-West from DCP Crime.

These transfers come just weeks before the Delhi Assembly elections, which are expected to take place in February 2024. The elections are seen as a crucial test for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is aiming for a third consecutive term, BJP and Congress. Currently, AAP holds 58 seats in the Delhi Assembly, down from 62 in the 2020 elections after the resignation of four members. The BJP holds the remaining seats, while Congress has yet to secure any.
The reshuffle is aimed at ensuring efficient law enforcement and maintaining security during the high-stakes election period.
