Although Hyderabad City’s population expanded from 68 lahks in 2011 to 80 lakh in 2021, the police organisation remained the same in 2016, when new districts were created in Telangana. “In the three commissionerates, the population is 1.6 crore with 40 lakh floating population. Therefore, the state government felt the need for ‘Mega City Policing’,” Mr. Anand said.
In order to broaden the scope of policing, the commissioner said that many additional wings have also been established. The Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW), a cybercrime unit, and an IT Cell have been established as two new Task Force units.
