Mr. C H Pratap Reddy, the Director General of Police presently heading Internal Security Division in Karnataka, has applied for voluntary retirement (VRS) from service. The officer, who was due to retire in June 2024, has requested to be relived early, by the end of April. Mr. Reddy cited personal reasons while applying for VRS in January 2024, as rules mandate a 3-month notice in writing.
The 1991-batch IPS officer was the former police commissioner of Bengaluru city before he assumed his present role as DGP, Internal Security Division. He hails from Guntur in Andhra Pradesh and is a B Tech graduate.
He is known for his technical skills and expertise in cyber security and has served in many important positions, including as Director and advisor on cyber security at the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM), Additional Director General of Police (law and order). He has also served in the CBI and in the Anti-Corruption Bureau in Bengaluru and Mumbai. He was conferred the Chief Minister’s Medal for Meritorious Service in 1994 and President’s Medal for distinguished service.
Although there are speculations within the department that his requesting for VRS is linked to his differences with a senior officer, state home minister, Mr. G Parmeshwara said that it was a personal decision of Mr. Reddy and he was aware of the reason behind this step.
