In a big move, Maharashtra government reinstated 2010 batch IPS officer Saurabh Tripathi, who had been suspended last year, and appointed him as deputy commissioner in State Intelligence Department (SID).
Mr. Tripathi was suspended in a bribery case last year. But, he was reinstated in the department in January, 2023 without any posting.
The state home department on Monday issued an order on Tripathi’s new posting at the SID. He was the deputy commissioner of police (DCP), zone 2, when his name was added to an FIR registered at LT Marg police station last year.
The state’s Suspension Review Committee, headed by Chief Secretary Manoj Saunik, met last week and decided to revoke Tripathi’s suspension. The decision was conveyed to the home department on Wednesday.
The primary duty of SID is to collect intelligence related to any anti-national elements while it also advises the government in its policy-making decisions.
