A 1986 batch retired IPS officer, Kuldiep Singh, has been appointed as the security advisor by the Manipur government.
Following a high-level meeting in Delhi, the Ministry of Home Affairs sent Mr Singh to Manipur to tackle the clashes between tribals and the majority Meitei community in the state.
Mr Singh is a former CRPF chief and known to handle such situations. He has also headed the National Investigation Agency (NIA), in an additional capacity, as its director general.
A ‘Shoot-at-sight’ order has already been issued in ‘extreme cases’ to contain the spiraling violence that has displaced over 9,000 people from their villages.
