A senior IPS officer committed on Tuesday to serve visitors visiting Ayodhya ahead of the consecration ceremony for the Ram temple on January 22. He stated that he plans to spend “considerable” time in the holy town after retiring from service.
Mr. Raja Babu Singh, a Madhya Pradesh cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from 1994 batch, is currently serving as the Border Security Force’s (BSF) Inspector General (training) at its headquarters.
“I have decided to spend a considerable time in Ayodhya post my retirement from service and will serve the visiting pilgrims, pray and meditate and have daily darshan of Lord Ram,” Singh said.
Mr. Singh went on to say that building the temple had been a long-held goal of his, and that he had contributed a brick for its construction following the demolition of the Babri mosque in 1992.
“I was a student at the Allahabad University and was preparing for the civil services when I, along with a friend, offered the brick as we undertook a religious trip to Ayodhya,” he added.
The officer previously served as the BSF IG in Kashmir, where he oversaw the force’s activities along the Line of Control under the Army’s operational command. He also served in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and held several posts within his cadre state.
