In an unexpected move, he has been removed from his post due to lack of interest in departmental work. Goyal's career has been in a lot of controversies. In the year 2000, Mukul Goyal was suspended from the post of SSP when former BJP MLA Nirbhay Pal Sharma was murdered.

In a very sudden and strange move in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday removed Director General of Police (DGP) Mukul Goel and sent him to the post of DG Civil Defense. The reason for his removal is disregard for government work, lack of interest in departmental work and inaction. That is why he has been removed from the post of DGP and made DG of Civil Defense. Goel’s tenure is till February 2024.

At the same time, the incidents of recent days are being considered as a major reason behind this action of the government. The government has given the charge of DGP to ADG Law and Order Prashant Kumar for the time being. Bishwajit Mohapatra, working as DG Civil Defense, has been sent to the post of DG Cooperative Cell.

First Time

This is the first time that alleging inaction, a DGP has been sent directly to the post of DG Civil Defense. Earlier, many DGPs were removed but they were not sent directly to the post of Civil Defense due to the allegation of inaction. In the year 2013 in the SP government, Mukul Goyal was made ADG law and order. During the entire election, the leadership ability of the police chief which should have been seen, was also angered by the government.

Why This Action?

It is being said that recently, the incident of rape of a rape victim by the SO inside the police station in Lalitpur and the very next day, a case of thrashing a woman naked came to light in the same police station of Lalitpur. At the same time, the government was upset with the attitude of the police in the Chandauli incident. It is believed that the Chief Minister was very furious due to the inaction of the police in these criminal incidents.

Special DG Post

Sources said that IPS officers of 1990 and 1991 batch can be made special DG. The officers of both these batches have not been able to become DG till now due to lack of vacancy. Prashant Kumar is a 1990 batch IPS. It is believed that till becoming a full-time DGP, Prashant Kumar can be given the responsibility as a special DG with full powers.
