1997 batch IPS officer and Director of Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Science, ADG Dr. GK Goswami has been awarded the D.Sc. degree in Forensic Science and Law at the second convocation of National Forensic Science University (NFSU), Gandhinagar, Gujarat.
Mr. Goswami is the first person to receive this degree. He was awarded this degree by Union Minister, Government of India, Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan. This degree is awarded after PhD.
In February this year, the Yogi government has appointed him the director of the State Institute for Forensic Sciences being built in the capital.
Originally, hailing from Meerut, UP, Mr. Goswami, who has been the SP of many districts in UP including Lucknow, Varanasi and Moradabad, has also been the Joint Director in CBI and Chief of UP ATS.
He has also written four books on crime research.
He has done LLM with distinction from the Indian Law Institute, New Delhi. He also did M. Phil. before joining Civil Service. He obtained a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry, and later again did a PhD in the field of Law from TISS, Mumbai.
Not only this, he has obtained the degree of Doctor of Science from Gujarat Forensic Science University, Gandhinagar on the issues of administration of justice in cases of child sexual abuse.
He is known as a forensic expert. During his police service, he has solved many big cases with the help of forensic techniques.
Once, Mr. Goswami had told media that he had got the DNA fingerprint test done for the first time in Uttar Pradesh. While posted in Varanasi, a 21-year-old tourist from New Zealand was raped and murdered and her body was buried in the house. After five months, he exhumed the body from the grave and identified the accused with the help of forensic techniques.
